Overcome Emotional Eating Through Exercise

Eating to fight bad moods is a surefire way to gain weight fast. More women are likely to be dependent on food as stress relievers. Perhaps it is because women are more prone to giving in to their emotions. Every woman relates easily to other women in movies who finish up a whole gallon of ice cream or bags of chips while feeling sad or upset. So how does anyone fight this battle of the bulge? Exercise is actually a healthy way not only of losing weight but also of preventing emotional eating.

First, when a person exercises, hormones called endorphins are released, which are known as "happy hormones." The reason why it is called such is obvious. The presence of these hormones results in happy feelings. These hormones relieve stress in a person. This results in a lower propensity to look to the refrigerator for a happy fix.

Second, exercise takes up some time, which might otherwise have been spent in front of the tube munching on greasy chips. The general way that exercise fills up one's schedule is also a strong factor in its fighting emotional munching. If you, for example, decide to spend this amount of time brisk walking, you will be less likely to be munching during that time. The process of distracting yourself is more effective than simply gritting your teeth against eating. This is because we will be more prone to do the very thing that we expend all our energies to avoid. Instead, doing exercise to occupy yourself will most likely have much better results. These results may even be permanent once the exercise routine gets formed as a habit.

Finally, exercise makes your body feel good. Isn't it that when you feel healthy and active, you are also less likely to eat unhealthy food? It's the general way that the human body reacts. When you consider your body healthy, you will not be excited to challenge that by stuffing yourself with junk food. Believing you are fat and deserve no better will also mean you will feel stuck to unhealthy food choices.

These are the main ways in which exercise can help you avoid being an emotional eater. Once you try some workout routine, you will notice one or all of these things happening. Rest assured, you will also feel much happier as well as healthier from not giving in to food cravings every time you feel them! Who would want to be enslaved by the refrigerator or the food cupboard, anyway?
