A Full-time Mom Can Still Exercise

When a mother gives full care to her baby, she usually stays on call for whenever the baby needs anything. For instance, when her baby cries in hunger, she tends to forget everything in order to feed him. When he howls from a soiled diaper, she has to be there as fast as possible to remove the incriminating stinky thing from his bottom. This results in a mom that is exhausted and having very limited time for her personal needs. An important task that a new mother needs to do after giving birth is to work out, but most often, she will find it difficult to find time.

Good thing there is still something that can be done. Research on infant sleeping and waking patterns has given new parents a healthy compromise between meeting baby's needs as well as mommy's needs. The idea begins by explaining how a baby adjusts better when the parents incorporate him into their lives instead of making him the center of their lives. What happens is that the parents become aware that they are to bring the baby into their world, instead of their adapting to the baby's world. The baby's world usually is very chaotic, because after all, a baby needs help in living his life.

Once that is understood, the mother can then go and set a predictable routine for the baby. Believe it or not, it is possible to estimate when the baby would be most likely to feed. Here, the principle revolves around full feedings. When the baby gets full enough at every feeding, he will naturally navigate towards a relatively regular schedule of taking milk. This is much better than the traditional way of depending on the baby's hunger cues, never knowing if it will happen in two hours or in ten minutes.

Finally, a fixed routine for feeding will translate into longer naps. This is because when a baby is full when he sleeps, he will not awaken about halfway through in order to feed. This translates into the mom being able to predict baby's needs, leaving her with enough time to do other things such as exercising.

There you can see that a stay-at-home mom can still enjoy exercise throughout her average day. Developing a routine for baby is just one step to achieving that goal, but it will prove very helpful in the long run. After all, she can now enjoy more than just five minutes of time on the exercise bike or on the treadmill. It sure is a breath of fresh air from dropping everything every ten minutes for a different baby need.
