Why You Should Do Resistance Training Exercises

Resistance training, with the aid of some weights, resistance bands or actual body weight, is a great way to workout our muscles. When people hear this, they immediately picture that their bodies would like that of Arnold Schwarzenegger. That's not entirely true. It will help you get bigger muscles but resistance training is also called strength training because it actually aims to improve your strength. You can actually get more benefits than just great muscles from resistance training.

Increasing our bone mineral density is one of the key benefits of resistance training. Our bones are constantly in a process known as remodeling where tissues break down and bones build up as we grow older but it becomes a lot less active after puberty and much less when we ht seniority. This causes our bone mineral density to decrease. Resistance training helps put some stress on your bones to stimulate remodeling and produces hormones that support the increase of bone mineral density. And because resistance trainig gives us strong muscles, our overall strength improves when we have strong bones and muscles making us do more things at less effort.

Muscle mass also increases with resistance training other than just muscle getting stronger and muscle mass constantly needs a supply of energy even while at rest. This means that any fat, which is also an energy source, will be used to supply the muscle the energy it needs. Yes, resistance training helps you burn body fat. This will allow the muscles that you have already toned to become more noticeable. Research has proven that this also improves glucose tolerance which reduces the risk of diabetes. Your heart actually benefits from this type of exercise as well. Regular resistance training helps your heart rate and blood pressure to lower which prevents certain heart diseases. This is why older people should also do some resistance training because it not only keeps their hearts healthy but it also helps slow down the degenerative effects of aging.

Consulting your doctor is also important especially for older people and those who have a medical condition or are overweight before engaging on an exercise. This is not an exercise that you can start anytime since you would need the right equipment and your body has to be in condition. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

A lot of exercises have more than just one benefit to your body that's why it is a recommended physical activity to have in our life. Always remember that you need to increase the intensity of the workout if it starts to get really easy so you can get the benefits your body needs and the results that you want.
